One of our clients, a major real estate company, has multiple offices, each comprising of over 20 people. People in each office had to know who was on holiday, sick or in a meeting and had to know when they would be back as well as organising who would be covering their responsibilities during that period. The companies solutions was a massive whiteboard, with all employees listed. Whenever someone was on holiday the white board had to be updated, along with paper based administration.

We were approached and asked for a better solution. Google Calendar is a great, good-looking and easy to use application, however didn't offer features to track holiday usage that the client needed.

Doing some more research revealed that there are few off-the-shelf products with this kind of functionality - so at Lemon, we custom made an online calendar solution for the client, designed to take the good points from Google's calendar and extend to it.

The calendar was popular right away - a holiday, or meeting can be booked with a few clicks, an email automatically sent to a manager for authorisation and within minutes all staff could see what was happening for the next month and plan for it. We were then asked if we could extend the calendar further.

And that's what we did. The calendar is now a full Intranet application. It has the latest training manuals, a news feed for the company, holiday, sick-leave and meeting booking and administration features - the site was no longer just a calendar but a custom solution we've called LemNet.
